The people of Uburu Ancient Kingdom in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have cautioned against the politicisation of the death of Nurse Mary Habila, who was attached to the office of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

In a statement signed by the National President of the Uburu Ancient Kingdom, Mr. Nicholas Odi, the community urged individuals and groups to refrain from making inflammatory comments that could prejudice ongoing police investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The community called on the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation guided by professionalism, available evidence and the outcome of the planned autopsy.

It also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the management, staff and students of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, and the people of Kaduna State over the loss.

While acknowledging the family’s initial reluctance to permit an autopsy, the community maintained that an independent post-mortem examination remains necessary to establish the true cause of death, dispel speculation and ensure justice.

The statement expressed support for Senator David Umahi’s call for a comprehensive autopsy, describing it as the most credible means of determining the facts surrounding the incident.

The community also condemned attempts to exploit the matter for political or personal interests, warning against public statements capable of influencing the investigation.

It further clarified that the deployment of medical personnel to the minister’s official team is a routine administrative arrangement for senior public office holders, adding that Mary Habila, like other staff of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, was provided official accommodation by the institution.

Reaffirming its support for Senator Umahi, the community urged the public to allow due process to take its course, expressing confidence that the ongoing investigation and autopsy would establish the truth behind the incident.
