Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has declared the collapse of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention to reconcile the discord between Governor Simi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, citing the continuous escalation of the crisis in the state.

Despite Tinubu’s recent meeting with Wike and Fubara at the presidential villa in Abuja to broker peace, the situation deteriorated significantly within the last four days.

This escalation witnessed the demolition of the state House of Assembly Complex and the defection of 27 assembly members, previously loyal to Wike, to the APC.

During a press briefing at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Okocha emphasized, “I wasn’t part of it, but whatever that was it, has broken down, and it has been broken irreconcilably.”

Regarding the four members of the state House of Assembly, led by the factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, who approved the budget presented by Governor Fubara for the 2024 fiscal year, Okocha denounced their actions as illegal, affirming their decisions wouldn’t be recognized.

He further disclosed the APC’s efforts to persuade Wike to join the party, asserting that upon his defection, Wike would assume the role of the party’s leader in the state.
