The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of three persons and injuries to four others in a fatal lone road crash along the Nnobi–Agulu–Awka Road.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, said the accident occurred near St. Jude Catholic Church, Adazi-Ani, and involved a Mercedes-Benz 608 commercial truck.
According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck developed a mechanical fault while in motion before catching fire. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a roadside barricade, somersaulted and became engulfed in flames, trapping some of the occupants.
The Corps said seven male occupants were involved in the crash. Three persons died at the scene, while four others sustained serious injuries and were rescued by FRSC emergency personnel.
Asekhauno disclosed that FRSC operatives responded promptly after receiving a distress call, carried out rescue operations, managed traffic by diverting vehicles to the opposite lane and ensured the burnt truck was removed from the road to restore the free flow of traffic.
The Sector Commander expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
She urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to ensure their vehicles are mechanically fit before embarking on any journey and cautioned against transporting flammable or hazardous materials under unsafe conditions.
Asekhauno reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives and property on the nation’s highways and called on road users to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance and road safety at all times.
