The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has unveiled a strategic partnership with state governments to deepen insurance penetration across Nigeria through a unified industry initiative aimed at expanding access to insurance services and supporting economic growth.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the management of Champion Newspapers Limited to the council’s headquarters in Lagos, NCRIB President, Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe, said the initiative is in line with the implementation of the Nigerian Insurance Reform Act (NIRA) 2025, which she described as a major milestone for the country’s insurance sector.
Mrs. Ezeibe explained that the council’s One Insurance Industry programme will bring together insurance brokers, insurers and state governments under a common framework to improve insurance awareness and extend coverage to rural and underserved communities.
She announced that the nationwide campaign will commence with the NCRIB-Abia Insurance Marketplace, which has been selected as the pilot project due to Abia State’s growing industrial development and commitment to economic reforms.
According to her, the technology-driven marketplace, being implemented in partnership with the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA), will connect brokers, insurers and consumers while promoting affordable micro-insurance products tailored to local communities.
Mrs. Ezeibe disclosed that the initiative would later be extended to Kano State before expanding to other parts of the country, adding that the programme is designed to position insurance as a catalyst for business growth, financial inclusion and national development.
She also called on the media to play a more active role in promoting insurance awareness and the implementation of the Insurance Reform Act, while commending Champion Newspapers for its longstanding support for the sector.
Responding, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Champion Newspapers Limited, Dr. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, praised the council’s leadership and reaffirmed the newspaper’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s insurance industry and promoting economic development.
