A political pressure group, the Abia Solidarity Forum (ASF), has raised concerns over an alleged plan to drag Labour Party aspirant for Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. Chima Anyaso, into what it described as politically motivated fraud allegations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists, the group’s spokesperson, Chijioke Okwuoha, alleged that certain political interests were planning to use petitions and media campaigns to portray Anyaso as being under investigation by anti-corruption and security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to the group, the alleged campaign is aimed at damaging the image of the businessman and philanthropist while influencing public opinion ahead of political activities in Bende Federal Constituency.
The forum, however, stressed that it was not advocating immunity from lawful investigation but insisted that anti-corruption and security agencies should only act on credible evidence and avoid being used as tools for political intimidation or score-settling.
ASF urged the agencies to uphold professionalism, due process and impartiality in handling petitions, warning that any attempt to manufacture allegations against political aspirants could undermine public confidence in democratic institutions.
The group also called on political stakeholders in Abia State to conduct issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of heating up the political atmosphere ahead of the elections.
It appealed to supporters of all aspirants to remain peaceful and allow democratic competition to be driven by ideas, integrity and service to the people.
