Borussia Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken has urged the club’s senior players to mentor and support younger teammates, describing the club’s academy as a “third transfer window” that must be fully utilised.
Speaking to the squad, Ricken stressed the importance of experienced players helping the next generation settle into the first team. He said Dortmund’s renowned youth academy remains a constant source of talent and should be treated as an always-open transfer window.
Among the youngsters attracting attention is Italian forward Samuele Inacio, who impressed with his breakthrough last season. Club officials are particularly encouraged by his patience and professionalism after he accepted their decision to continue his development with the U19 side rather than pushing for a place in the U23s or first team. His parents also trusted the club’s long-term development plan.
Borussia Dortmund also have high expectations for South American prospects Kaua Prates and Justin Lerma. Club staff maintained regular contact with both players in Brazil and Argentina, providing training guidance and helping them improve their English ahead of their integration into the club.
Lerma, in particular, has reportedly made a strong impression on Dortmund’s coaching staff. During a visit to observe him, they watched the Ecuadorian train at an altitude of about 2,800 metres above sea level, a demanding environment that is believed to enhance endurance and physical performance.
According to SPORT BILD, Dortmund see their emerging talents as a key part of the club’s long-term sporting strategy and future success.
