The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a family of five found dead in their residence at Umuimo Village, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.
The victims, identified as Mr. Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife, Mrs. Chinaza Nnabugwu, and their three children, were reportedly discovered after neighbours became concerned that the family had not been seen since Sunday.
According to reports, repeated knocks on the family’s door went unanswered, prompting relatives and residents to force the door open, where they found the decomposing bodies of all five occupants.
Items recovered from the house reportedly included containers of leftover food and a generator set. The bodies were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the matter was reported to the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters by a relative of the deceased.
She disclosed that detectives visited the scene, carried out a preliminary examination, documented the scene with photographs, and deposited the bodies in the morgue for further investigation.
DSP Chinaka said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, while assuring that the command has commenced a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
