Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has been sworn in as a senator of Colombia after winning a seat in the country’s March legislative elections.
Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, secured her position on a platform focused on promoting rights and protections for workers in the adult entertainment industry.
She will represent Colombia’s Norte de Santander region under the left-wing Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 parliamentary term after placing 23rd on the bloc’s closed list.
The Historic Pact emerged as Colombia’s strongest political force in the Senate election, securing 22.72 per cent of the vote, with more than 4.4 million ballots, translating into 25 seats, according to data from Colombia’s National Registry.
Omaña, who began her career in journalism before moving into the adult film industry and later entering politics, has defended her past, insisting it should not affect her ability to serve in public office.
According to Colombian media reports, she believes women who have worked in the sexual economy contribute significantly to the country’s economy and deserve recognition and legal protection rather than discrimination.
Responding to criticism over her election victory, Omaña challenged opponents in a TikTok video, asking: “¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?”
The statement translates to: “Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to an elected public office?”
The new senator, who was born in Cúcuta, said her legislative priorities will extend beyond workers’ rights to include mental health advocacy and initiatives against sexual abuse.
Her rise to the Senate has attracted significant attention in Colombia, coming months after her appointment, alongside fellow former performer Juan Carlos Florián, as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro’s administration sparked public debate.
Omaña’s election marks one of the most unconventional political journeys in recent Colombian history, as she transitions from the entertainment industry into national lawmaking.
