A Turkish lawmaker, Hasan Bitmez, from the Islamist Saadet Partisi (Felicity Party), has passed away at 53 after suffering a heart attack on the parliament floor.
The incident occurred immediately after Bitmez’s speech condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza, stating, “Even if history remains silent, the truth will not remain silent.”
Recall that MUK TV reported that Bitmez collapse at the Turkish Grand National Assembly on Tuesday, leading to his hospitalization at Ankara City Hospital, where he succumbed to his condition on Thursday.
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca confirmed the MP’s death, which followed his critique of the Turkish government’s stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In his translated speech, Bitmez asserted, “They think that if they get rid of us, there will be no problem. However, if you get rid of us, you will not be able to escape the torment of conscience.
Even if you escape the torment of history, you will not be able to escape the wrath of God.”
The collapse prompted immediate assistance from fellow legislators, and Bitmez was swiftly taken to the hospital in an “extremely serious and critical” state, ultimately leading to his demise.
