At a village meeting in Ukraine, chaos erupted when local councillor Serhii Batryn allegedly detonated grenades, leaving at least 26 individuals injured.
The incident, reported by Telegraph, captured Batryn, 54, pulling grenades from his jacket on Friday morning, tossing them casually onto the floor. The live stream continued as explosions filled the room, smoke billowed, and bodies lay on the ground.
Batryn, affiliated with the ‘Servant of the People’ party founded by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, had reportedly clashed with fellow councillors in Keretsky village, western Ukraine, over a pay raise for the council’s leader. Reports also suggested his dissatisfaction with water issues in the village while the utility company head received significant remuneration.
Amidst a heated argument during the meeting, Batryn left briefly, only to return with grenades, as reported by the Kyiv Independent.
Authorities indicated that six individuals were in critical condition and hospitalized due to life-threatening injuries.
The Ukrainian secret service initiated a terrorism investigation following the incident.
Initially, reports suggested Batryn had died, but authorities later clarified that doctors had successfully resuscitated him.
A police statement confirmed, “As a result, 26 people were wounded, six of whom are in grave condition.”
