The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has established its first permanent presence in Abia State following the handover of office and residential facilities, as well as 120 hectares of land, by the Abia State Government.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, former Chief of Army Staff, Oladipo Diya Ihejirika, and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the development as a major milestone in strengthening national security and commended Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for prioritising security as a foundation for sustainable development.
The facilities handed over include a modern office complex, residential accommodation blocks and a Certificate of Occupancy for 120 hectares of land located in Nsulu.
Air Marshal Aneke said the permanent presence of the Air Force would enhance operational effectiveness in the South-East and improve the military’s response to emerging security challenges in the region.
He also disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force is considering the establishment of a military training institution on the allocated land, subject to the necessary approvals.
Governor Otti, in his remarks, reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, noting that a peaceful environment remains essential for investment, economic growth and the overall well-being of residents.
The Chief of the Air Staff further described the initiative as a model of effective civil-military collaboration, assuring the people of Abia State that the Nigerian Air Force would continue to discharge its responsibilities with professionalism and dedication.
The establishment of the Air Force’s permanent presence in Abia is expected to strengthen security operations, deepen cooperation between the military and the state government, and contribute to peace and socio-economic development in the South-East region.
