UMUAHIA — A socio-political organisation in Abia State, Reality Organisation, has rejected allegations of anti-party activity against the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing the accusation as politically motivated.
The group, in a statement signed by its representative, Dimgba Okereke, said the allegation by the Abia State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was an attempt to intimidate a prominent member of the party.
The reaction followed a communiqué issued by the Abia APC leadership condemning comments attributed to Senator Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwonta and demanding explanations and apologies over alleged anti-party conduct.
Reality Organisation argued that Kalu did not endorse Governor Alex Otti or the Labour Party during the television interview referenced by the APC leadership.
According to the group, Kalu was asked whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election and answered in the affirmative. He was also asked whether Governor Otti would win the Abia governorship election and similarly answered yes.
The organisation noted, however, that when Kalu was asked whether the APC had an alliance with Governor Otti, he categorically denied it.
The group therefore questioned the basis for describing the senator’s comments as an endorsement, arguing that a political prediction should not be equated with an expression of support for a candidate.
“A prediction is an assessment of what one believes may happen; an endorsement is an expression of support for a candidate or cause,” the group stated.
Reality Organisation urged the Abia APC leadership to view Kalu’s assessment as an opportunity for introspection rather than grounds for disciplinary action.
It challenged the party leadership to examine the political circumstances behind the senator’s prediction and work towards strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation also accused the state APC leadership of applying what it described as “selective outrage” to political comments, alleging that similar predictions made about Kalu in the past did not attract comparable disciplinary reactions.
It further warned against what it described as segregation, intimidation and political exclusion within the party, stressing that no individual or faction should regard the APC as a personal possession.
The group maintained that the APC belongs to all members who have contributed to its growth and electoral activities in the state.
Reality Organisation called on the party leadership to prioritise reconciliation and inclusiveness, arguing that internal divisions could weaken the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
It challenged the party to organise its structure, reconcile aggrieved members, produce a credible candidate and mobilise voters if it disagreed with Kalu’s political assessment.
The organisation maintained that the ultimate test of political strength should be the ballot box rather than disciplinary threats.
“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s prediction should provoke introspection, not persecution. If the Abia APC disagrees with his assessment, the answer is simple: organise the party, reconcile aggrieved members, end segregation, present a credible candidate and prove the prediction wrong at the ballot box,” it said.
The group urged APC stakeholders in Abia to unite ahead of 2027, warning that continued internal disagreements could undermine the party’s electoral prospects.
