The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has summoned the Area Commander and all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) serving in Onitsha for a high-level supervisory meeting following Wednesday’s incident at the Onitsha Head Bridge.

The meeting, disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was aimed at strengthening operational supervision, accountability and professionalism within the police command, particularly in Onitsha, one of the state’s major commercial centres.

According to Ikenga, CP Oji Ama directed the DPOs to provide detailed updates on the security situation and policing activities in their respective areas of responsibility.

The Commissioner placed particular emphasis on measures to prevent unprofessional conduct by police personnel and ensure that officers operate within established professional standards.

CP Oji Ama warned that any officer found abusing the powers entrusted to him or engaging in conduct inconsistent with the standards of the Nigeria Police Force would face appropriate disciplinary action.

He reiterated his zero-tolerance policy for police misconduct, stressing that no officer or group of personnel would be allowed to undermine public trust and confidence in the Force.

The Commissioner also directed the DPOs to strengthen internal supervision and command control, ensure strict compliance with professional standards and promptly address genuine complaints from residents, traders and business owners.

CP Oji Ama assured residents of Onitsha and the entire state of the Command’s commitment to professional, accountable and people-oriented policing.

He further encouraged members of the public to report security concerns and genuine complaints through appropriate channels, including the Commissioner’s dedicated WhatsApp line, 09169531886.

The Command assured that credible complaints received would be given appropriate attention and thoroughly investigated.
