Renowned Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has shared insightful advice, highlighting that the inquiry “what do you bring to the table” shouldn’t solely revolve around money in relationships.
Encouraging women not to take offense at this query from their partners, Alibaba stressed that monetary contributions are not the exclusive yardstick for evaluating a person’s worth in a relationship.
He emphasized the diverse forms of valuable contributions, citing an example involving a friend who benefited from his wife’s connections.
This instance showcased how non-monetary attributes, such as networks and connections, significantly impacted the relationship.
Alibaba emphasized the importance of attributes like understanding, respect, and adept money management, indicating their substantial relevance beyond the conventional notion of love in specific relationships.
“What you bring to the table doesn’t have to be cash. Sometimes it is Understanding, respect, and money management,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Alibaba revealed a poignant anecdote about his father’s disapproval of his career choice.
He recounted an incident where his decision to pursue a career in comedy led to a decade-long rift with his father, who desired him to become a lawyer.
Recalling the emotional confrontation with his father about his comedic aspirations and the subsequent strained relationship, Alibaba highlighted how this fueled his determination to succeed in the comedy industry, driven by a desire to prove his father’s doubts wrong.
