The Kano State Police have apprehended 18-year-old Salisu Adamu, a resident of Danbatta Kano, suspected of his involvement in the kidnapping of his three-year-old cousin, Auwalu Aminu.
According to Leadership, the distressing incident was reported to the police command by the victim’s father, Mallam Aminu Garba Danbatta, on December 19, 2023.
Five days following the child’s disappearance, Adamu contacted the family anonymously, demanding a ransom of N1 million for the safe release of young Auwalu.
Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel, swiftly acted upon the complaint. He reported that after thorough investigations, Adamu was apprehended, and the child was rescued in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
Upon interrogation, Adamu confessed to acting alone and revealed financial troubles as his motive. He intended to use the ransom to settle debts amounting to over N100,000, stemming from a failed business venture.
Expressing shock and dismay, Danbatta conveyed his gratitude to the Kano State Police for their prompt intervention in rescuing his son, despite the anguish of discovering that a family member was behind the abduction.
CP Gumel assured the public of a comprehensive investigation, vowing that Adamu would face the full force of the law for his actions.
