Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has celebrated a historic political milestone after her government became the longest-serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic.
Meloni’s government reached 1,413 days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days held by Silvio Berlusconi’s second government between 2001 and 2005.
In a post on X on Friday, Meloni described the milestone as a moment of gratitude and responsibility, saying political stability was essential for national planning and governance.
“Today our Government becomes the longest-serving in the history of the Italian Republic,” Meloni wrote in her post.
“It is a fact that I welcome with gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility. Because stability is not a record to flaunt, but the condition that allows a Nation to plan, decide, honor commitments, and command respect,” she added.
Meloni said her government had worked to increase employment, reduce unemployment, support families and businesses, strengthen security and improve Italy’s international standing.
“In these years we have worked to increase employment, reduce unemployment, support families and businesses, strengthen security, manage public finances with seriousness, and restore to Italy weight and credibility on the international stage. The results are there, but we know full well how many things still remain to be done,” Meloni said in the X post.
