Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 36 year old woman in Onitsha over an alleged case of sexual abuse of a minor and rescued four children in connection with the investigation.
The arrest followed open-source intelligence gathered by the command after a disturbing video allegedly depicting the sexual abuse of a minor went viral on social media.
The operation, conducted on the evening of September 10, 2026, led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years.
The police also recovered sex toys and other items described by the command as relevant to the investigation.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved.
The police said the husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to establish whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, expressed deep concern over the incident, describing the alleged abuse as unacceptable given the vulnerability of the children involved.
The Commissioner directed a thorough investigation and ordered that the rescued children be provided with immediate protection and welfare support.
The command said the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the rescued children remained its priority throughout the investigation and prosecution process.
It added that it would work with relevant child-protection and support agencies to ensure the children receive appropriate care, protection, counselling and other assistance required for their recovery.
The police further assured that the identities and privacy of the children would be protected throughout the process and that they would be treated with compassion and sensitivity.
The command commended vigilante operatives in the area, as well as bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and contributed to the arrest of the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing, with the police expected to provide further updates as more facts emerge.
