The Labour Party (LP) has strongly criticized Bola Tinubu’s New Year’s speech, denouncing it as hollow and emblematic of arrogance and indifference toward the Nigerian populace.

In a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the LP expressed shock over what it deemed as the shallowness of Tinubu’s speech, citing it as a portrayal of high levels of hypocrisy, deceit, and a noticeable lack of empathy.

“It’s depressing to note that the president and his handlers didn’t deem it fit to include a word of comfort for the families of over 200 persons killed by terrorists during the Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau State. What a shame!

“The president’s helplessness in the face of his glaring failure to address the critical issues of insecurity, decayed infrastructure, the collapse of the manufacturing and productive sectors, inflation and the Naira to Dollar exchange rate, which is spiralling out of control is written all over the speech,” the statement partly reads.

Ifoh highlighted the perceived helplessness of the president in addressing pressing issues like insecurity, dilapidated infrastructure, the collapse of manufacturing and productive sectors, inflation, and the uncontrollable Naira-to-Dollar exchange rate, all noticeably absent from Tinubu’s address.

He further criticized the omission of any mention in Tinubu’s speech regarding the alleged massive embezzlement of the nation’s resources by government appointees and party leaders across different sectors.
