The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has joined government officials, security chiefs and other stakeholders to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in the state.

The celebration was held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, and featured colourful ceremonial activities reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence and renewed aspirations for a peaceful, united and secure nation.

A major highlight of the event was the Guard of Honour and ceremonial parade mounted by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command.

The parade showcased the discipline, coordination and professional conduct of police officers as part of activities marking the nation’s independence anniversary.

The event attracted top government functionaries, heads of sister security agencies and other stakeholders who joined residents in commemorating the milestone.

The presence of the security chiefs and government officials also underscored the importance of collaboration among security agencies and relevant stakeholders in maintaining public safety and strengthening national unity.

Speaking through the activities of the command, the Abia State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and strengthening cooperation with relevant stakeholders towards maintaining peace and security.

The 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations nationwide provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s past achievements and challenges while renewing calls for unity, peace, security and sustainable national development.
