The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a shipment of ‘Colorado,’ an extremely potent form of cannabis, hidden within boxing kits imported from the United States of America.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the hard drug was discovered at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, on New Year’s Day, leading to a subsequent weeklong intelligence-driven operation aimed at apprehending the receiver.
The agency’s relentless efforts paid off on January 6th with the arrest of 38-year-old Olorunfunmi Olakunle in Lagos.
The statement indicated, “A weeklong intelligence-led operation to get the receiver arrested was consummated on Saturday 6th January following the successful tracking and arrest of 38-year-old Olorunfunmi Saheed Olakunle who distributes the dangerous psychoactive substance to dealers across Lagos state.”
The consignment, disguised as boxing kits, arrived in the country via Cairo on an Egypt Airlines flight on January 1st.
The suspect admitted to distributing similar shipments sent by his childhood friend, US-based Sagir Salami, with this latest one weighing 1.80 kilograms.
In a related operations, NDLEA operatives apprehended twelve suspects, including a 28-year-old female, Bilkisu Suleman, who was identified as a supplier of ammunition to bandits, in interdiction operations across Kaduna, Lagos, Niger, Kogi, Kano, Borno, and Osun states during the new year.”
