Startling revelations have emerged as the National Universities Commission (NUC) sheds light on the ongoing crackdown against universities issuing counterfeit certificates in the country.

In a recent development, the Federal Ministry of Education suspended the assessment and accreditation of degree certificates from Benin and Togo after an undercover investigation unearthed a degree mill operation in Cotonou.

Recall that as earlier reported by MUK TV, an investigative journalist obtained a degree within six weeks from Cotonou University, including participation in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps scheme, raising alarms about the legitimacy of these certifications.

The NUC, committed to eradicating fake universities in Nigeria, released a list of institutions under scrutiny, including well-known names such as the National University of Nigeria in Keffi, North Central University in Otukpo, and Christ Alive Christian Seminary and University in Enugu.

PUNCH Online, citing information from the NUC website, highlighted the universities flagged in this ongoing effort, three amongst them located in Abia state:

1. National University of Nigeria, Keffi, Nasarawa State.

2. North Central University, Otukpo, Benue State.

3. Christ Alive Christian Seminary and University, Enugu State.

4. Richmond Open University, Arochukwu, Abia State.

5. West Coast University, Umuahia, Abia State.

6. Saint Clements University, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

7. Volta University College, Aba, Abia State.

8. Illegal Satellite Campuses of Ambrose Alli University

9. L.I.F.E Leadership University, Benin City, Edo State.

The NUC cautioned against acquiring certificates from these institutions, stressing that such credentials won’t be recognized for NYSC, employment, or further studies.

This revelation comes in the wake of the government’s persistent efforts to clamp down on illegal universities, with 58 uncovered so far.
