Electricity supply is set to return to parts of Nkpa in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State following the commencement of restoration work on vandalised electricity infrastructure by Dr. Chima Anyaso, the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency.
The intervention follows an appeal made by residents during a recent town hall meeting with Anyaso, where Engr. Chimezie Ikebuiro, speaking on behalf of the community, called for assistance in restoring electricity to the affected areas.
Anyaso subsequently pledged to look into the situation, with restoration work now underway less than three months after the engagement.
The ongoing work includes the restoration of the vandalised electricity line from Amediaba to Amaegbuato. Efforts are also being made to energise a transformer recently donated to Amediuku by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, with the aim of extending electricity supply to more communities across Nkpa.
Reacting to the development, Deacon Chief Charles Madubuike, Ebekue Dike 1 of Nkpa and Chairman of the Works Committee of the Nkpa Development Union, commended Anyaso for responding to the community’s request.
The President General of Amediuku Nkpa Community, Mr. Agoha Uchenna, also expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying the community welcomed Anyaso’s response to the request made during the town hall meeting.
He said the ongoing restoration had further strengthened the relationship between the candidate and residents of Amediuku.
The Director General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organisation and an indigene of Nkpa, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, described the project as a response to a specific need raised by residents during the town hall meeting.
He thanked Anyaso for committing personal resources to the electricity restoration before assuming public office.
Members of the Chima Anyaso Foundation, led by former Commissioner for Boundary and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Chief Mascot Imo Obike, were also present to monitor the ongoing work.
The development comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue across Abia State.
