The newly appointed substantive Vice Chancellor of Tansian University, Oba, Anambra State, Professor Cater Dike Nnamdi Umeoduagu, has died less than 24 hours after assuming office.
Professor Umeoduagu was formally sworn in as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the university on Friday, October 2, 2026.
According to reports, the professor fell ill later that night and died around midnight on Saturday, October 3, 2026, barely a day after taking the oath of office.
His sudden death has thrown the university community, colleagues, friends, family and political associates into mourning.
The late Professor Umeoduagu was a professor of Microbiology and also served as a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, where he represented the Aguata Constituency I.
His death came shortly after he assumed the leadership of Tansian University, with his brief tenure as Vice Chancellor ending before he could fully commence his administration.
The development has reportedly left members of the university community and those who knew him in shock, as tributes are expected to follow his sudden passing.
