The Supreme Court has decisively rejected the appeal brought forward by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Titus Uba, contesting the outcome of the Benue governorship election.

Previously, both the governorship election petition tribunal and the court of appeal in Abuja had upheld Hyacinth Alia’s election as the governor of Benue State.

Unsatisfied with the rulings, Uba pursued the matter to the highest court in the land, seeking legal remedy.

Alia, who ran under the APC, was officially declared the winner of the March 2023 Benue governorship election.

Adding to his victory, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) granted him a certificate of return.

According to Prof. Faruk Kuta, the INEC Returning Officer, Alia secured 473,933 votes, surpassing his closest contender, Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party, who amassed 223,914 votes. Alia’s win was solidified by a substantial margin.
