The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has raised concerns about potential restrictions looming for Globacom subscribers in making calls to MTN lines, citing unresolved interconnect charges as the cause.

In a public notice signed by Reuben Muoka, Director of the Public Affairs Department, the NCC highlighted the impending partial disconnection of Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.

According to the notice, Globacom received notification regarding the application made by MTN and was given the chance to present its case and offer comments on the matter.

The statement from the NCC emphasized that after assessing the application and considering the circumstances surrounding the non-payment of interconnect charges by Globacom, it was concluded that the telecom provider lacked substantial justification for its outstanding debts.

Highlighting the impending action, the notice specified that after 10 days from the announcement’s date, stating, “subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN but will be able to receive calls.”

“The Commission, having examined the application and circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, determined that Globacom does not have sufficient or justifiable reason for non-payment of the interconnect charges,” the notice added.

It further clarified that despite the impending partial disconnection, inbound calls to the Globacom network would remain unaffected.
