FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger believes an African nation can win the FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence in the continent’s progress and potential to reach football’s biggest prize.
Speaking at the CAF Strategy Conference in Cape Verde, the former Arsenal manager said Africa had made significant strides but needed to take another step forward to achieve the historic milestone.
“Africa has made a fantastic step forward. There is still another step to make. We want to see an African team WIN the World Cup, and the numbers show that it is feasible!” Wenger said.
No African nation has reached the World Cup final, although Morocco made history at Qatar 2022 by becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals.
Wenger’s remarks underline the ambition to see African football build on its progress, strengthen its competitiveness and challenge the world’s leading national teams.
For African football fans, the ultimate dream remains clear: to see a nation from the continent lift the FIFA World Cup trophy for the first time.
