Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, has been honoured with the Pillar of Community Development Award by the Rotary Club, Abuja District, in recognition of his contributions to community service and commitment to philanthropy.
Receiving the award on Saturday night, Kalu expressed gratitude to the club, describing the honour as both a recognition of his service and a reminder of the responsibility to continue making a positive difference in society.
He said the true measure of a person’s life lies not in material possessions but in the lives touched, burdens eased and hope restored through acts of service.
According to the former Abia Chief of Staff, leadership should be measured by its impact on the people rather than the position one occupies, stressing that service to humanity is a responsibility rather than a favour.
Kalu also commended the Rotary Club for its longstanding commitment to humanitarian service, particularly its philosophy of “Service Above Self”, which encourages individuals to place the welfare of others above personal interests.
He noted that the recognition would further inspire him to intensify his community engagement and remain committed to initiatives that promote human welfare and development.
“I accept this honour not as a destination, but as encouragement to continue on the path of service, with humility, compassion and an unquenchable commitment to the common good,” he said.
Kalu also called for stronger collaboration among individuals and organisations to build stronger communities, restore hope and improve the lives of vulnerable people.
He thanked the Rotary Club, Abuja District, for the recognition, expressing hope that continued partnerships in community service would help create a better society for present and future generations.
