The weeklong Torch of Unity run for the Abia State Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta (ASTEST 2026) has concluded at Amadeus University, Amizi, in Ikwuano Local Government Area, ahead of the commencement of the games on November 3, 2026.

The torch was received at the university by its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Henry Eke, marking the final stop in a statewide tour of participating tertiary institutions designed to build anticipation for the sporting event and promote unity among students through sports.

The Torch of Unity was lit by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on Monday, October 26, 2026, before embarking on its journey across participating institutions.

The delegation included Dr. Emeka Enyiazu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Education; Chinedu Michael Nwosu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs; and Mr. Jerry, representing the Director of Sports, alongside other officials.

As part of preparations for the competition, the Abia State Government also provided financial support to Amadeus University to facilitate its participation in the sports fiesta.

The successful conclusion of the torch relay highlights the state government’s efforts to encourage student participation in sports, promote unity among tertiary institutions and provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents.

With the Torch of Unity run completed, attention now shifts to the commencement of ASTEST 2026 on November 3, when participating institutions are expected to compete across various sporting activities.
