The National Vice-President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Okenze Obinna, has called on business owners and manufacturers in Imo State to establish factories and production facilities in their respective communities to promote rural industrialisation and economic development.

Obinna made the call in Owerri, where he highlighted the economic benefits of relocating industrial activities from major cities to local communities.

He noted that establishing factories in rural areas could help reduce capital flight, create employment opportunities, discourage excessive migration to urban centres and lower business operating costs.

According to him, manufacturers who operate from their home communities could save considerably on expenses such as accommodation and transportation while creating employment opportunities for residents.

The MAN official also identified Nnewi in Anambra State as an example of how community-based industrial development can contribute to economic growth and entrepreneurship.

He particularly encouraged investors from Ngor Okpala and other parts of Imo State to collaborate with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and take advantage of available local infrastructure to establish viable industrial centres.

Obinna maintained that encouraging businesses to invest in their communities would not only strengthen local economies but also create opportunities for sustainable development across the state.

The call comes amid growing discussions on the need to expand industrial activities beyond major cities, strengthen local production and create more employment opportunities for Nigerians.
