The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has undertaken an institutional study visit to Kenyatta University in Kenya as part of efforts to strengthen international academic partnerships and improve its capacity in Virtual and Open Learning.

The FUTO delegation was received by the Acting Registrar, Research, Innovation and Outreach at Kenyatta University, Professor John Paul Oyore, who represented the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Okumu.

The visit provided an opportunity for both universities to exchange knowledge, share institutional experiences and explore best practices in digital education, institutional governance, academic programme development and quality assurance.

Discussions placed particular emphasis on Virtual and Open Learning, an area of growing importance in expanding access to higher education through technology-driven teaching and learning platforms.

For FUTO, the engagement is expected to provide valuable insights into international best practices while supporting efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and create opportunities for cross-border academic collaboration.

The university said the visit reflects its commitment to internationalisation, digital transformation and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and research.

The engagement also highlights the growing importance of partnerships between higher institutions in advancing knowledge exchange and improving the quality of higher education across Africa.
