Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for inspiring and encouraging him to embark on the successful Dangote Petroleum Refinery project.
The billionaire businessman expressed his gratitude to Tinubu, the Federal Government, and Nigerians for their unwavering support despite challenges.
Dangote’s acknowledgment of Tinubu’s instrumental role came during discussions with stakeholders in the oil and gas industry as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery initiated production, a move set to eliminate the country’s reliance on imported refined products.
The media statement, made available to newsmen on Sunday, revealed Dangote’s appreciation for Tinubu’s visionary leadership, prompt attention to detail, and crucial interventions that accelerated the realization of the refinery project.
In addition to thanking Tinubu, Dangote extended his appreciation to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for their support.
“I want to thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and for making our dream come true. This production, as witnessed today, would not have been possible without his visionary leadership and prompt attention to detail.
“His intervention at various stages cleared all impediments thereby accelerating the actualisation of the project.
“I also want to express my appreciation to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for their support.
“These organisations have been our dependable partners in this historic journey. We also thank Nigerians for their belief and support in this project. We have started the production of diesel and aviation fuel, and the products will be in the market within this month once we receive regulatory approvals,” the statement partly reads.
Dangote emphasized the significance of the refinery’s production, marking a pivotal day for Nigeria and showcasing the country’s ability to develop and deliver large capital projects.
He also expressed fulfillment with the project’s actualization, emphasizing its game-changing impact on the nation.
The statement outlined key details, stating that the refinery had received six million barrels of crude oil, with the first delivery on December 12, 2023, and the sixth cargo on January 8, 2024.
The refinery’s capacity allows it to load 2,900 trucks a day, adhering to Euro V specifications for its products.
Dangote also acknowledged the patience and support of bankers and financiers, local and offshore, as well as the proactive role of the Lagos State Government, led by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in swiftly resolving challenges during the project’s execution.
He expressed gratitude to host communities, traditional leaders, and the dedicated project staff for their contributions to the refinery’s success.
The commencement of diesel and aviation fuel production is expected to bring these products to the market within the month, pending regulatory approvals.
The refinery’s design aligns with international emission norms, employing state-of-the-art technology to ensure environmental compliance.
