A five-man armed robbery gang met a gruesome fate on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when their daring escape spiraled into a fatal collision with a stationary truck, leaving one dead and two critically injured.
The armed robbers had brazenly raided a wholesale shop dealing in sealed engine oil along the Ada George/Chinda axis of Port Harcourt.
As they attempted to flee with their loot loaded into two vehicles, a private security guard raised the alarm, alerting both passers-by and the police.
Attempting to evade the hot pursuit of a police patrol van, the robbers took an alternative route towards Rumukokwu from Ada George Road.
The high-speed chase ended abruptly as their vehicle crashed into a stationary articulated truck along Ada George Road, resulting in a shocking scene captured on video.
Eyewitnesses revealed that one member of the gang was found dead in the front seat, while two others lay critically injured on the ground, as reported by Leadership .
Two gang members managed to escape the chaotic aftermath.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the incident, stating that the collision occurred during a hot pursuit by the police.
The suspects were swiftly transported to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead, and the two critically injured members are undergoing treatment.
