Abigail Marshall Katung, a distinguished member of the Labour and Co-operative Party, originally from Nigeria, has secured the prestigious position of Lord Mayor of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
Having spent her formative years in Nigeria, Katung later relocated to the UK for her studies at Leeds University. Expressing her excitement on social media, she shared, “It’s with great pride that my family and I look forward to undertaking the responsibility to serve.”
In a statement on her X page, Katung conveyed, “I am deeply honoured and humbled to be chosen to serve as the next Lord Mayor of Leeds for the 2024/25 term.
Our city is a shining example of compassion, resilience, and unity, and it’s with great pride that my family and I look forward to undertaking the responsibility to serve you.”
According to BBC reports, Katung also serves as a governor at Leeds City College, which extended its congratulations on her new post, stating, “We look forward to continuing our work together to provide skills and opportunities for people in the region.”
It’s noteworthy that Marshall’s roots trace back to Kaduna State, a detail adding a significant layer of cultural richness to her new role.
