The Kano State Hisbah Board, in a swift crackdown, has arrested a whopping 52 commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Yan Adaidaita Sahu, for alleged offenses including immoral haircuts, selling illegal drugs, and mixing with females in their vehicles.
Operatives of the Hisbah command carried out the arrests in various parts of the Kano metropolis as part of the recently launched “Operation Kau da Badala” (Operation Fight against Immorality), as reported by The Punch.
This initiative aims to cleanse Kano State of activities deemed immoral, such as prostitution, drug abuse, and the sale and consumption of alcohol.
Addressing the tricycle riders on Friday, Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Mujahid Aminuddeen, stated, “We want to use this opportunity to appeal to you to avoid such acts and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of our religion and culture of the Kano people.”
He highlighted the alleged offenses, including immoral haircuts, riding in shorts, using objectionable posters on their vehicles, and engaging in activities that go against Islamic principles.
“As Muslims, we will not accept this behavior and activities of the tricycle riders. That is why we brought you here to admonish you on the negative implications of these acts on our religion and culture as people of Kano.”
Following the arrests, the tricycle riders were taken to the board’s headquarters, where officials provided admonishments before their release.
The sensational sweep reflects Hisbah’s stern stance against perceived moral infractions in Kano State.
