Michael Render, renowned as Killer Mike, experienced a dramatic twist at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night when he was escorted out of the Crypto.com Arena in handcuffs, just after winning three prestigious awards.
In a video shared by Hollywood Reporter Chris Gardner, the rapper was seen being led through Crypto.com Arena by police.
The Los Angeles Police Department, in a post on X on Monday, revealed that Killer Mike was taken into custody due to a “physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court.”
The LAPD statement continued, “The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division. The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released.”
Despite the unexpected turn of events, CBS reports that Killer Mike emerged triumphant, sweeping all three categories he was nominated for: Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album for his self-titled 2023 studio album, “Michael.”
In one of his acceptance speeches on Sunday, Killer Mike expressed, “I’m a Black man in America, and as a kid, I had a dream to become a part of music. And that nine-year-old is excitedly dancing inside of me right now.”
