Amidst growing frustration with economic challenges, residents of Suleja in Niger state, a key hub near Abuja, have taken to the streets in fresh protests, urging the Bola Tinubu-led administration to address the pervasive hardship and soaring inflation afflicting them.
Witnesses reported scenes of unrest as Nigerians voiced their grievances on Wednesday, as depicted in photographs obtained by SaharaReporters.
“There is ongoing protest in the Suleja local government area of Niger State. They are calling on Tinubu to end the hardship the masses are suffering on a daily basis in the country,” stated a witness.
This follows similar protests in Minna, the capital of Niger State, where hundreds of men, women, and youths recently demonstrated against rising inflation, particularly decrying the escalating costs of gas and fuel.
Videos from the Minna protests showed impassioned citizens blocking major roads, lamenting the government’s apparent inaction amid the surging prices of essential goods.
While acknowledging the pain felt by families, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba assured protesters that the government was actively working to alleviate their plight and mitigate the economic repercussions of petrol subsidy removal.
As Nigerians continue to grapple with economic strains, these protests underscore the urgency for tangible solutions to alleviate the burden on citizens across the nation.
