The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has issued a stern call to the federal government, accusing it of displaying a disturbing lack of concern for the plight of Nigerians amidst a deepening inflation crisis.
Expressing their dismay in a statement by NEF’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy/Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the elders highlighted the escalating cost of living, particularly the soaring prices of essential food items, which has led to widespread hunger and malnutrition.
Describing the situation as alarming, the NEF emphasized the urgent need for the government to address the crisis with immediate action.
“It is disheartening to witness the disconnect between the reality on the ground and the actions, or lack thereof, of our leaders,” the statement read.
The NEF stressed the devastating consequences of unchecked inflation, which has pushed families into financial distress, exacerbated malnutrition, and crippled small businesses.
In light of these challenges, the NEF demanded urgent measures from the government, including increasing agricultural productivity, investing in infrastructure, and implementing social safety nets to support the most vulnerable members of society.
The statement also called for decisive steps to curb corruption and wasteful spending, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in restoring public trust.
Addressing the pressing issue of inflation, the NEF urged the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and implement effective policies to alleviate the burden.
By rising to the occasion and tackling these challenges head-on, the NEF believes Nigeria can overcome the crisis and build a brighter future for all its citizens.
