Another tragic incident happened in Ogun state as 43-year-old Mikail Osundiji reportedly passed away while watching the AFCON semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa.

Osundiji’s untimely demise adds to the somber list of casualties who lost their lives during the intense AFCON showdown, following the recent death of former NDDC Executive Director, Cairo Ojougboon and three others, including a Nigerian businessman based in Ivory Coast.

The unfortunate event happened on Wednesday evening in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as Osundiji watched the match at a public football viewing center in the Olomoore area.

Witnesses revealed that Osundiji succumbed to shock and collapsed when Nigeria’s second goal against South Africa, scored by Victor Osimhen, was disallowed by the central referee.

According to relatives, Osundiji exhibited no signs of illness prior to his sudden demise.

His elder sister, Mrs. Adetunji Nofisat, recounted how he took his last breath after the disallowed goal, prompting others to rush him to a nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

“That was when other people at the football viewing centre rushed to him and took him to one of the private hospitals in Olomoore before the doctor on duty pronounced him dead,” the deceased’s sister said.

Osundiji was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon, adhering to Islamic rites.

However, due to his surviving family members, including his father, mother, and two children aged 12 and seven, his burial took place in Olomoore.
