A group of northern youths, in a dramatic protest against skyrocketing living costs, have set fire to the Nigerian flag, denouncing the dire economic conditions under President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office.
In a viral video on X, the agitated youths incinerated the flag, lambasting the government’s extravagant spending amid widespread poverty.
“Despite voting you into power, we’re reduced to eating leaves while you live luxuriously,” they lamented.
Pointing to exorbitant prices, they exclaimed, “A packet of Spaghetti is now N700 and beyond the reach of the poor.”
The angry youths further added that Nigeria’s defeat to Cote D’Ivoire on Sunday at the just concluded African Cup of Nations was a welcome development, noting it would have been a distraction from the excruciating economic pains people are facing.
“We thank the almighty God for Nigeria losing the football competition. We pray Nigeria does not win anything if this is how the country is being governed,” said the northern youths.
