In a resounding victory, former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Olumide Akpata, clinched the Labour Party (LP) ticket for the upcoming September 2024 governorship election in Edo State.

Scoring an impressive 316 votes, Akpata emerged victorious in the fiercely contested exercise held at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, Airport Road in Benin City, the bustling capital of Edo State.

Months after formally declaring his gubernatorial ambition under the Labour Party, Akpata’s triumph underscores his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Edo.

Addressing a jubilant crowd during his earlier visit to the Edo LP secretariat in Benin City, Akpata reiterated his profound dedication to the welfare of the Edo populace, lamenting the neglect of the people in contemporary Nigerian politics.

“My interest is for the people of Edo State. And what I find out about politics and governance in Nigeria today is that the people have been taken out of the equation. Nobody cares about the people,” Channels TV quoted Akpata as saying while addressing the mammoth crowd that welcomed him.
