A yet-to-be-identified resident of Lagos State has lost his life in a stampede while attempting to purchase rice at the Nigerian Customs office in Lagos

Dr. Adunola, @yemoka, who confirmed the fatality, revealed that the victim succumbed to injuries sustained during the chaotic rush for rice at the Customs office.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, accompanied by his wife, fell amidst the crowded queue and was unable to rise in time, resulting in him being trampled by fellow shoppers.

Sharing the grim details on social media, Dr. Adunola lamented, “So sad. Survived by very young children.”

Another resident recounted the harrowing scene at the Yaba Customs office, where thousands clamored to purchase rice, only to face brutality from uniformed officers.

Recounting the ordeal, the witness expressed dismay at the preferential treatment afforded to uniformed personnel, highlighting the chaos and violence that ensued.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) announced plans to distribute confiscated food items nationwide to alleviate hardship and address food security concerns.

However, the NCS emphasized the need for proper certification before distribution to ensure food safety.

MUK TV gathered that residents were meant to show their means of identification, particular the National Identification Number (NIN) as a prerequisite to buying the confiscated rice.
