Former President Obasanjo has dropped a bombshell revelation in Abuja during the launch of Dr. Umar Ardo’s book, ‘Court and Politics,’ highlighting the dire state of Nigeria’s oil sector.
According to Obasanjo, rampant theft is a major contributor to the nation’s economic woes, with Nigeria unable to account for a significant portion of its oil production.
Represented by former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu, Obasanjo underscored the severity of the issue, stating that out of the daily quota of two million barrels, a staggering 1.7 million are pilfered.
Amid discussions about Nigeria’s governance system, Obasanjo defended the presidential system but criticized the lack of adherence to rules by Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, former NEF Chairman and ABU ex-Vice Chancellor, lambasted the failure of Nigeria’s leadership, calling for urgent intervention to address the country’s leadership deficit. Abdullahi emphasized the urgent need for a political overhaul, stressing that Nigeria’s current systems have repeatedly failed.
He urged a return to the drawing board to salvage the nation, lamenting the North’s role in the country’s stagnation and advocating for honest discussions to pave the way for progress.
Abdullahi’s poignant remarks echoed the frustration felt across the nation, particularly regarding the abysmal power generation levels in a country of over 200 million people.
“Inaction is no longer an option,” Abdullahi declared, urging decisive action to steer Nigeria towards a brighter future.
