In a jaw-dropping courtroom drama, a driver identified as David Donald found himself locked up in an area court in Yola, Adamawa state’s capital, accused of swindling a woman out of over five buckets of local alcohol, burkutu.

Sergeant Kabiru Abubakar, the police prosecutor, painted a shocking picture for the court, alleging that the defendant’s insatiable appetite led him to order a staggering five plastic buckets of burukutu and two plates of fish pepper soup at a local joint in Yola on February 21, 2024, accumulating a tab worth a whopping N6,600.

However, Donald’s appetite was not the only thing that made headlines that day; his attempt to flee without footing the bill set off alarm bells.

The courtroom drama unfolded after Felicity Sunday and Linda Ali, the aggrieved complainants, sounded the alarm and brought the matter to the attention of the authorities.

As the curtains fell on the trial, Donald, who is from Karim Lamido LGA in Taraba State, offered a guilty plea to the charge of cheating, as stipulated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
