No fewer than 15 people, including a pregnant woman, were tragically roast beyond recognition when a petroleum-laden tanker exploded on Sunday at Showboy Road, adjacent to a filling station in Ore, Odigbo Local Council, Ondo State.
While 15 were reported to have died in the inferno, the official report puts the death toll at 8. This was according to a statement on Monday from the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, Ezekiel Son-Allah.
The report says the explosion occurred when some residents of the area were scooping fuel from a tanker that had fallen around the area.
Unfortunately, there was a spark from a cell phone held by one of the fuel scoopers that resulted in the ignition.
