The paternal grandmother of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has revealed details of their strained relationship, claiming that the singer rarely contacted or supported her financially before his death.

Speaking in an interview with Dumininu, the elderly woman said she was unaware of his growing popularity as a gospel musician and only recently learnt that he had built a house.

She explained that her family had cared for the singer’s late mother as one of their own, but claimed that Toluwanisings did not maintain a close relationship with her.

“We took care of his mother very well like our own, but Toluwanisings doesn’t call me,” she said, adding that people sometimes discouraged her from contacting him.

When asked about the financial support he provided, the grandmother claimed that he sent her ₦10,000 on only three occasions after she complained about his failure to visit.

She said she once gave his phone number to a woman who helped her reach him because she wanted to hear his voice.

According to her, the singer would explain that he was busy with work whenever she complained about his absence, but his financial assistance remained limited.

The grandmother also alleged that he did not provide her with money for medication or other basic needs.

Despite their strained relationship, she said his death had left her deeply saddened.

“I was very touched, and it is a deep sorrow for me, even though he doesn’t do anything for me,” she said.

Speaking about the singer’s burial, the grandmother insisted that he should be laid to rest in the house he built rather than beside his late mother’s grave.

“It is my wish for him to be buried inside the house he built. They should not come and put him beside his mother’s grave at all. I will not allow it,” she declared.

Her comments have brought attention to the family’s apparent disagreements over the late singer’s burial arrangements, although details about the final plans have not been confirmed.
