SSC Napoli has released an official statement regarding the fisticuffs involving their star player, Victor Osimhen, but absolved themselves of any wrongdoing over a demeaning video against the Nigerian international.
MUK TV recalls that the Italian club perceptibly made a mockery of the Super Eagles forward in a video posted on its TikTok platform following the club’s goalless draw against Bologna last weekend, where he missed a penalty kick.
In the said video, which was later deleted because of the criticism it received, Osimhen could be seen whimpering like a baby while begging to take the penalty kick, and missed the kick afterward
The video caused discord between striker and the club, with the player threatening legal action against the Italian club.
But Napoli, in what was supposed to be an apology to Osimhen, refused to take blame for posting the derisive video but said the video was not intended to make mockery of the player.
The statement reads, “Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, points out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club”.
“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad”.
“Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision”.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offense towards him, this was not what the club intended”.
