Justice has finally prevailed on the death of an Italy-based Nigerian man, Alika Ogorchukwu, who was beaten to death by an Italian, Filippo Ferlazzo, in July 2022. The killer bagged a 24-year jail term.

The Italian was convicted on Wednesday for gruesomely killing the 39-year-old helpless Nigerian man who was on crutches, walking in a Marche coastal city in July 2022.

The news of his conviction was disclosed by the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement on Thursday.

Dabiri-Erewa, in the statement signed by NiDCOM spokesperson Gabriel Odu, applauded the Nigerian Mission in Rome for following through with the case and other cases involving Nigerians.

She said, “I am glad that this case finally got justice. Like I always say, there have to be consequences for actions.”

It was reported that Ogorchukwu was beaten to death by his Italian attacker, who used his crutches to strangle him in the presence of several white onlookers who could not come to Ogorchukwu’s helpless rescue.

Instead of helping, some of the onlookers recorded videos of the attack using their phones.

Ferlazzo was arrested on July 30, 2022, on charges of murder and stealing Ogorchukwu’s phone.

The Italian Police stated that they believed Ferlazzo attacked Ogorchukwu after he asked Ferlazzo’s girlfriend to buy a handkerchief.

The incident was reported to have taken place at 2 p.m. on Friday in the main central street of Civitanova Marche, Italy, where Ogorchukwu was found dead by paramedics.
