The Lagos State University (LASU) in Ojo has decided to oust Professor Tajudeen Olumoko from his position as the Dean of Student Affairs.
This move follows a report published by an online news outlet that exposed alleged certificate racketeering within the university.
According to the report, a certificate racketeering syndicate had been operating, selling genuine Lagos State University certificates for sums ranging from N2 million to N3 million, depending on the complexity of the specific course.
A reliable source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the removal of Prof. Olumoko from office.
Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, has been appointed as the new Acting Dean of Student Affairs.
The source indicated that an official statement regarding this change would be issued soon.
In response to the allegations, the Lagos State House of Assembly summoned several key figures, including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Akibu, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and other senior staff of the institution.
The purpose of the summons is to investigate the extortion and certificate racketeering claims leveled against the university.
Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the House and an alumnus of LASU, stressed the importance of finding the facts to protect the reputation of the institution.
He emphasized that if anyone is found guilty of wrongdoing, appropriate sanctions should be applied.
The motion, brought under ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’ by Hon. Owolabi Ajani, highlighted the need to invite the Commissioner, the Vice Chancellor, and other relevant parties to uncover the truth behind the serious allegations.
