Olutimain Ilenre, a graduate of History and International Studies from Ajayi Crowther University, revealed in a video shared on social media why he decided to burn his original certificates, including his Bachelor of Arts, secondary school certificate, NYSC certificate, and JAMB certificate.
Ilenre attributed this drastic step to the frustration of being unemployed, stating that the current state of the country has rendered his certificates worthless.
In the video released on Monday, he expressed his disillusionment, stating, “To get a certificate in this country is like a waste of time.”
Even when considering international opportunities, Ilenre claimed that his certificates proved futile.
Feeling the weight of his accumulated job experiences over the past 13 years, where his certificates were never required, the frustrated graduate emphasized the need for a shift in mindset.
He suggested that, given the current realities in the country, people should focus on acquiring practical skills.
Ilenre urged parents to empower their children to learn handwork and trade, stressing, “I finished school in 2010, did my NYSC in 2010/2011; till today, I haven’t used these certificates to get a job.”
