Nollywood veteran, Amaechi Muonagor, popularly known as Aguiyi, is battling with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke, according to a Facebook user, Tony Muonagor, who identified himself as the actor’s cousin.

Tony revealed the actor’s health challenges in a photo post on Sunday, showing the star of the 2021 remake, Aki and Pawpaw, in a hospital bed.

The actor’s cousin said the photo was taken “two weeks ago” during a visit to Nnewi Teaching Hospital and that Amaechi had been managing diabetes until the recent escalation of his health issues.

Tony says Amaechi Muonagor is currently battling with stroke and kidney disease.

Tony expressed his initial intention to discreetly assist Amaechi but opted for transparency to provide clarity to friends, fans, and the online community.

Amaechi, 61, is currently undergoing weekly dialysis and other treatments at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, his cousin further disclosed.

“Amaechi is currently down with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. He had been managing his diabetes over the years and living his life. He is presently undergoing weekly dialysis and other treatments at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi,” he said.

“His family had been shouldering the costs for years until the recent stroke made his case more serious and indeed more expensive to battle alone, hence the publicity.

“Within the limits of my capabilities, I have done and am still doing my best to assist as much as I can, even reaching out to well-meaning individuals who are donating to this cause.”

Tony added that the family had been shouldering the financial burden for years but that the complexity of a stroke had intensified both the severity of the situation and the associated costs.

“Contrary to most online publications, Amaechi is my first cousin. His father and my father are of the same father. We have had a wonderful relationship as members of the same industry, and I am proud of him as a ‘brother,” he said.

Tony provided a health update, noting positive progress with controlled blood sugar levels.

“There’s some improvement. His blood sugar is under control, but he is still on admission, weekly dialysis, physiotherapy, and other treatments. His full treatments and recovery require sustained funding or donations. No amount is too small,” he added.

He added that the actor had received support, love, and monetary donations for his hospital bills from his fans, friends and many groups.
